This was quickly followed up with a D&AD for his British Army campaign. His Nike ‘Lance’ and Audi ‘Living Room’ commercials went on to win the prestigious AICP award and have featured at MOMA in New York. Since then Jason has won many Cannes, British Arrows, and Creative Circle awards amongst others and has been nominated three times at D&AD.
Aside from commercials his Electronic music video was screened at Rushes short film festival and then at Edinburgh festival two years running. In 2015 Jason was commissioned by EA sports to develop the script and direct the live action for the 2016 ‘Need For Speed’ video game. The ambition was to seamlessly blend live action with CG footage to create an immersive authentic experience where the player plays a role with real life characters in each scene. After four months in script development, the shoot took place over two months in various locations around London.
Jason directed and produced a feature documentary ‘Cross Country’ following acclaimed sculptor Jon Krawczyk across 18 states from LA to NYC with his 9/11 memorial sculpture strapped to the back of a pick up truck. “Through Jon's extraordinary journey and the passion of people across the nation, award-winning director, Jason Smith creates a thought provoking film and an inspirational, vivid portrayal of America today.” Jon’s sculpture now proudly stands opposite Ground Zero, NYC.
